God is Our Redeemer

Job 19:25
But as for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, and that he will stand upon the earth at last.

Of all the many attributes that describe God, maybe the most over looked and quite possibly the most important is Redeemer.

Redeemer means: To deliver from sin and its consequences by means of a sacrifice offered for the sinner.  Jesus’ death on the cross paid the price for all of our sins.  That covers all the sins of the past, present, and future for all of us.  To think that all of my sins, even the ones that I have not yet committed, are covered by Jesus’ death on the cross is mind boggling and I have a hard time wrapping my brain around that thought.  There are no words to
describe how unworthy we are to receive such a gift from God.

Knowing that, what could we possibly do to repay God for what he has done for us?  In a word, nothing.  But there is one thing that we are asked to do by God.  Serve one another.  We can serve one another by doing our best and doing it with love.  That means what ever we do, that we do it to the best of our ability to glorify God.  God created us to serve one another, not to be served. (Mark 10:45)

Do you agree that Redeemer is one of the most important attribute to
describe God?  If you still question it, may I suggest that sometime during the Lenten season that you view the movie “The Passion of the Christ” to see the pain, suffering, and consequences that Jesus endured for our sins.  It may change your mind.

Heavenly Father, thank you for your son and what he did for us on that cross.  May our lives be a blessing to you that we may bring you all the glory.  In your name we pray. Amen.
