Devotion
Since the beginning of Man in the Garden, God has been the divine instructor to the created people.  He has taught us through the conversations He had with Adam and Eve.  He has shared important lessons for us through Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.  He has taught us through the accounts of King David’s life and many others.  In the birth of Jesus, the great Teacher came to walk among us here on Earth.  Throughout all time, God has been so gracious to share his divine wisdom with his people.  He is our Instructor.   In Jeremiah 16:21, the great prophet Jeremiah yearns for the time when the people of Israel will all understand the true character of God.  When Christ was born to walk among the people on the Earth, the Great Teacher became one of us.  Jesus’ message carried authority and both amazed and concerned those he encountered in his ministry.  He spent much of His time on teaching of the new way and the new truth to his apostles and the crowds that were following him.    God’s wisdom is always there for us but we have to choose to receive it for it to truly impact our lives.  The nation of Israel was not receptive to God’s instruction in the time of Jeremiah and the Pharisees were not receptive to the teachings of Jesus during His life.  In practice, an effective instructor can only be successful in sharing his wisdom when the student is receptive to hearing the message.  The best tool for God to instruct us in His righteousness and truth today is His Word.  The Bible is so much more than an instruction manual, but it provides very clear direction on what God wants to teach us.  The Instructor is always available to teach us.  The question is, “are we always ready to be taught?”

Prayer
Heavenly Father, I thank you for all of the lessons you have taught us.  The mercy and grace You show us through Your teachings reveal the immense love You have for us, your children.  Open our hearts and minds to be receptive to your truth and to encourage us to live lives that are glorifying and pleasing to you.  In your Son’s most precious and holy name, we pray.  Amen.
