God is Omnipotent
By Bob Jacobson
Friday, April 15

Psalm 33:6-15
 6 By the word of the LORD the heavens were made,
   their starry host by the breath of his mouth.
7 He gathers the waters of the sea into jars[a];
   he puts the deep into storehouses.
8 Let all the earth fear the LORD;
   let all the people of the world revere him.
9 For he spoke, and it came to be;
   he commanded, and it stood firm.
 10 The LORD foils the plans of the nations;
   he thwarts the purposes of the peoples.
11 But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever,
   the purposes of his heart through all generations.
 12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD,
   the people he chose for his inheritance.
13 From heaven the LORD looks down
   and sees all mankind;
14 from his dwelling place he watches
   all who live on earth—
15 he who forms the hearts of all,
   who considers everything they do.

Omnipotent: Om*nip"o*tent; Omni meaning “all;” potent meaning “power”

How does one who is not omnipotent understand one that is? I can’t understand God’s power, but I can see God’s power through the beauty of his creation every day.  Carolyn and I saw many examples during our trip out west last year: The Grand Canyon and other canyon lands; The giant cypress and redwood trees; The snowcapped mountains and mountain streams. And then back home throughout the year the joy of spending every day in the beauty of Indiana.  Way too many examples to list here...  What an amazing world we live in.  But to try and understand the power it took to create and maintain the Earth and the stars and the galaxies is impossible for me.  And to think God “said” and it was done.  Wow!  What is comforting to me is knowing I believe in a God who is omnipotent and almighty.  How could I be confident in a god that I created or someone else created?  Our God is eternal, here forever before I was born, here now during my few days on earth and here forever after I’m gone.  And I’m looking forward to spending that forever with God in Heaven.

Are you familiar with Chris Tomlin’s song “How Great is Our God?”

Please sing the chorus with me:
How great is our God
Sing with me
How great is our God
And all will see
How great, how great is our God

Dear God, help me to always put all of my hope in you as my one and only sovereign God.  Don’t ever let me put my hope in false gods,  our government,  in my finances,  in my own efforts,  even my own family and local church.  My hope is in You.  Thank you for the blessing of family, church and church family and everything else I’ve been blessed with.  Thank you for your plan of salvation that’s available for all of us.  Thank you for Jesus and the cross.  Amen
