“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, And do not return there without first watering the earth and making it bear and sprout, And furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater; So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire. And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it”.
Isaiah 55:10-11

It is easy to get a headache when trying to unravel the mystery of God’s Sovereignty.  Most of the time (for me at least) the knowledge that God is ultimately in control leaves me feeling elated, protected, and secure.   But, there are other times when His Sovereignty leaves me frustrated, angry, and confused.   For if God is sovereignly in control and over all things then I must reconcile that God knows what He is doing, and that His ways are ALWAYS righteous, even when the unthinkable occurs.

Recently, a massive Tsunami swept thousands of Japanese citizens out into the great abyss.  While my heart breaks for the family’s left behind, my mind is baffled by God’s hand in this catastrophe.  What was He thinking?  How does He expect you and I to respond to His unfathomable actions and His mighty deeds, when those deeds break our hearts in two?

Oh, what must it be like to know the end of the story?

Mighty God, You are the Author and Sustainer of our lives.  You spoke the very Universe into existence and know all things.  Please be patient with us as we endeavor to place our whole lives in Your mighty hands.  Empower us to believe in Your eternal Word, and to trust that You will remember us when the Day of your wrath comes.
