We invite everyone to join us on Sunday, December 9th, as the musicians of Mt. Auburn Music Ministries will combine their musical gifts to lead the congregation in our morning worship. This year’s Advent theme invites the congregation to reflect on the names of the Advent candles – hope, peace, joy, and love. Both the 9:00 and 10:30 services will offer musical, visual, and spoken words around the meanings of these terms.
9:00 a.m.: Our cantata worship service is based on the musical work Love Came Down at Christmas: Celebrating God’s Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love by Joel Raney. The Chancel Choir, the Mt. Auburn Chamber Orchestra, and Joyful Song (children’s choir) will lead the congregation, who will also participate through Advent hymns, Christmas carols, prayers, and Scripture texts. Reflections on hope, peace, joy, and love from the writings of author Susan Palo Cherwien will also be shared.
10:30 a.m.: This service entitled “Emmanuel: God with Us: Celebrating God’s Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love” features the musicians of the praise team who will offer contemporary expressions of well-known carols as well as original music. The service includes visual interpretations of the well-known Christmas story and thoughtful expressions through the spoken word.
Members and friends of the congregation are invited to attend both services to worship together and experience renewal and encouragement for the season through these fresh expressions of these truths the candles present.
